THE NAME OF BOROBUDUR
About the naming, there some opinions :
Raffles : The ancient Budur (Boro = ancient, Budur = place names) ; The majestic Buddha (Boro = majestic, Budur = Buddha) ; Buddha that many (Boro = many, Budur = Buddha)
Moens : The city of Buddha followers
Casparis : Derived from the word kamulan ibhumisambharabudara, based on the quote from the inscription of Sri Kahulunan 842 F, which means holy building symbolizing good collection from the tenth Bodhisattva.
Poerbatjaraka : Temple in Budur (Budur = name of the place / village)
Soekmono and Stutertheim : Bara and budur means monastery on the hill, according Soekmono Borobudur temple as a place of pilgrimage to venerate the flow of Mahayana Buddhism and ancestor worship.
HISTORICAL FINDINGS
Borobudur Temple emerged 1814 years back when Sir Thomas Stanford Raffles, Governor General of the UK to become the guardian of the Indonesian activities in Semarang, at that time Raffles obtain information that in Kedu region have been found stacks of stone image, and then he sent a Cornelius Netherlands to clean up.
